Information about Tools for Advanced Manufacturing

East Carolina University (ECU) and Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) and their industry partners plan to present the sixth class of Tools for Advanced Manufacturing for Veterans (TAMV), scheduled to begin 14 January through 4 February, 2015.   Instruction is provided at no cost to veterans through Duke Energy support to ECU and its Champions of Freedom Fund; however, for admission to the class, participants are REQUIRED to pay $30 to take the national ACT National Career Readiness Certificate examination at an NC Community College. Your attendance at each of the 15 class days is required to obtain the national certificates.  Successful students will finish the course with three national technical certificates: ACT National Career Readiness Certificate™ (NCRC), OSHA30 and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (Yellow Belt is the academic portion of the Green Belt. Green Belt requires projects in addition to course work.), and are able to take additional ACT WorkKeys® assessment tests.  The course provides hands-on demonstration of advanced manufacturing equipment; instruction in innovation and industrial design; and resume and interviewing preparation.  Local and regional manufacturing firms participate in a speed interviewing process on the final day of the program.

The classes are limited to 25 participants.  Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis for those that complete all the requirements and can commit to the full three week course.  Those requirements are

    (2) take 
the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) test at your local community college (http://www.act.org/workkeys/locations.htm)
    (3) 
report NCRC scores, send your civilian resume, send your JST (if you wish it evaluated) to you community college rep and to TAMV@ecu.edu
    (4) be prepared to attend the full three-week program.

STEP (1)
Complete online application form  APPLICATION for TAMV.  This entry is date and time-stamped so applicants may be admitted on a first-come, first served basis.

STEP (2)
Sign up for ACT® National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) You must REGISTER BEFOREHAND to take the test.  Below are contact numbers and some testing time information for the National Career Readiness Exam (NCRC) at area community colleges.  Be sure to call each campus about its registration process beforehand.

Registration: By noon Wednesday before test date, go to Continuing Education Center Room 101 (Kim Lewis) in Neill Currie Building to register, pay $30 testing fee, and receive specific instructions from Kim Lewis or asssitant in CEC 101.

Testing: Second Friday of the month Neill Currie Building, Continuing Education Center in room 108, unless otherwise instructed.  (DO NOT just go straight to the Spring Lake Lab and expect to take the exam.)

Testing is every Thursday at 1300 and Saturday at 0800.  Preregister come open lab at the Greenville Center on Memorial Drive.

STEP (3)
Submit to the community college rep and to TAMV@ecu.edu a copy of your current resume in any form containing your military, work and educational histories. This program is designed to help position you for civilian employment. If you wish them evaluated by community college staff, submit your JST (Joint Services Training) transcript and college transcript. Be sure your last name appears in the filename (e.g., SMITH_resume or SMITH_JST).  Time will be devoted to refining your resume.  

STEP (4) 
Be prepared to attend all fifteen days of classes, from 0800 to 1700.  Because portions of this course result in national certifications based upon hours, attendance at all sessions is required. You will be given the opportunity to take the ACT WorkKeys® exams at FTCC and receive nationally recognized certifications.

Once you complete the above requirements, you will be notified if you are among the 25 in the class. Lodging and transportation are the responsibility of the participant.
